When does the IRD Tax Amnesty begin and end?

May 1st 2022 to April 30th 2023

What periods are eligible for the IRD Tax Amnesty?

All income years up to and including 2020.

What are the benefits of participating in this tax amnesty programme?

Benefits include:

  • 100% waiver of interest
  • Elimination of all penalties associated with liabilities.
  • Write-off of ALL tax liabilities including interest and penalties due prior to Income Year 2000.

What taxes are NOT eligible for the Tax Amnesty?

  • PAYE
  • Withholding Tax (including Contract Tax)
  • VAT

What if I decide not to take advantage of the IRD Tax Amnesty programme?

The IRD tax amnesty programme is a voluntary programme that provides taxpayers with an opportunity to settle outstanding tax liabilities on a favorable basis. Taxpayers who have unfiled returns, underreported obligations, or existing tax obligations who do not take advantage of this tax amnesty program by April 30th, 2023 will not be eligible for the benefits of the program.

Filing taxes is not voluntary but obligatory. The amnesty ends on April 30, 2023, therefore taxpayers who fail to take advantage of this amnesty may face a variety of enforcement actions, inclusive of penalties and interest.

Are payment plans available for the Tax Amnesty programme?

Payment Plans are available for the tax amnesty.  Any Payment Plan under the amnesty will only be in effect for the amnesty period of one (1) year, from May 2022 to April 30 2023.

How does the Tax Amnesty affect my existing payment agreements with the IRD?

Your existing payment agreement with the IRD will be reviewed and after discussions with you, will be adjusted accordingly.

I haven’t filed my tax returns for more than 6 years, will that be a problem?

In an effort to determine your tax position and possible liability, all outstanding returns should be submitted.

 

I did not receive a letter or a call from the IRD concerning the Amnesty.  What should I do?

Call or visit any of the IRD Offices at a location of your choice.
